Letters to Juliet with Amanda Seyfried

Now-a-days the only way to live the Romero and Juliet fairytale (excluding their tragic death) is through reading novels and watching movies. In these modern times young adolescents only care about the recreational relationship where intimacy is on par with pleasure. Letters to Juliet directed by Gary Winick (13 going on 30 and Bride Wars) was a great romance movie depicting an elderly woman who realizes it is never too late to find her Romero.

Sophie Hall (Amanda Seyfried) (Mean Girls, Chloe, Dear John) being a fact checker for The New Yorker magazine aspires to become a writer, yet her boss does not share the same wishes for her. Meanwhile Sophie’s fiancé, Victor (Gael Garcia Bernal) is working on opening an Italian restaurant in New York, and to celebrate the young couple embarks on a trip to Verona, Italy. Victor being busy with his restaurant preparations finds no time for his lovely fiancé so Miss Sophie decides to make the best of and goes sightseeing.

She comes across the house of Juliet and witnesses in amazement as numerous people write letters to Juliet and posts them on Juliet’s wall. These people in hope write to seek Juliet’s advice; Sophie within this wall discovers a letter from 1957, written by Claire, an English woman who, while in Italy studying art, fell in love with Lorenzo Bartolini. When he asked her to run away with him, she did not show up and resorted to Juliet’s wall.  Sophie kind heartedly responds to the letter.

Immediately a young English man arrives, Charlie (Chris Egan), revealing that because Sophie responded to his grandmother’s letter, she was now there in search of her love. When Sophie asks to meet Claire, Charlie says no, but Sophie follows him and is introduced to Claire (Vanessa Redgrave) who is acceptingly meets Juliet.

The three get together and embark on a journey set to find Claire’s true love: Lorenzo Bartolinis. Through the journey several feelings develop among Sophie and Charlie. Together, the three decide to embark on a journey to find all the Lorenzo Bartolinis. The unrequited love of Sophie, Charlie, and Claire unravel in this masterpiece.
